Pastor Bong Gonzales The world was shocked by one of the strongest storms that devastated millions of homes and took thousands of precious lives and still counting. Headlines about it filled up the news both in print and television. The Internet, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media covered and posted stories of heroism and courage of the Filipinos in facing such storm.
Many might have thought that the worst to ever experience is the actual storm. Yes, maybe to some but alas, the survivors are now facing more challenges than the physical storm. Many have lost almost everything that they had; livelihood, homes and lives of dear loved ones. Hunger, thirst and homelessness become the next feat to defeat. All of us who are from the distance might not be able to fully comprehend where the Filipinos are getting their strength in the midst of this horrible situation. Let me tell you something about the Filipinos: They are a people who are able to come up no matter what. They are resilient, able to adjust in any given situation, any kind of weather and people. They are willing to sacrifice everything just to elevate the lives of their loved ones. Even their own status, name and honor. They can be humbled but not humiliated. They are able to find ways to stand up no matter how deep they fall. So, this super storm “Haiyan” will only bring the best out of the Filipinos. This will also bring to light all the corruption that is as deep as her generation. A painful way to learn from our mistakes and pursue a more dignified and honorable Nation and race we can have. The eye of the whole world is on you Filipino! Make the best of where you are now. God allows you to pass through this because you can pass through it and become a better YOU! You can look up and pray. The best place to find help is in Him who is unseen and yet knows all things. I pray, together with all the scattered Filipinos around the world and all the nations who believe in you, that you will not only survive this ordeal but you will be able to stand up and see the brighter side in all these things. The good book has declared: “All things work together for the good of those who loved God and are called according to His purpose”. May you find help in this time of your need! May God raise you up from your lowly position! May you be able to Jam In Life and make it through!
