For more than a decade the Jesus Is Lord Church in Ontario has proclaimed the gospel in the city
of Mississauga “…whatever God does, it shall be forever” (Ecclesiastes 3:14). The history of JIL Mississauga
started in March 5, 1997 when the first Sunday Service was held at the Burnhamthorpe Library with nearly 30 attendees gathered
under the supervision of key leaders from JIL Toronto leadership. They served as Bible teachers who trained the new leaders
and workers. About last quarter of the same year, a small group of leaders was selected for the effective organization of
the new church with continuous monitoring and support from JIL Toronto. Increased number became evident that JIL Mississauga
needed to move few months after the first anniversary using the facility of Tomken Arena with approximately 80 attendees.
Unfortunately, it was only available every Sunday with 5 hours allocated time. But nothing will deter a church with a purpose.
In December of 2001, an opportunity came to move to a bigger place and found a leased building at 1575 Trinity Drive.
As the church continued to grow, different ministries were established to accommodate the needs of the church members. In
2005, Ronald Laxamana was assigned as the Church Pastor of JIL Mississauga as recipient of the Non–Full time Pastor
Program of JIL Canada.
During the summer of 2006, Bro. Eddie Villanueva, together with his family and some leaders
from the Philippines came to visit JIL Mississauga Church and had a fellowship gathering. It was an encouraging time for all
those who attended and to hear the JIL Spiritual Director speak and share God’s word that gave new level of faith to
the JIL Mississauga Church as a whole.
Continued growth was experienced that a need to find another large place
was immediate. Workers and leaders increased in number. And before the end of 2006, God provided a place in the heart of Mississauga
located at Hurontario and Matheson. It was an ideal place to experience new heights and level of worship and ministry to God.
Also, the brethren committed their time and labor to renovate and paint the new leased building. They sacrificed to provide
the Lord’s house with an excellent place of worship. And so, the fruit of their labors came when they held their Christmas
party and New Year’s services in the new and renovated leased facility with joy abounding among all people.
God never runs out of new things for those who wait for them. Another breakthrough came in 2007 when JIL Brampton started
to give space for growth in JIL Mississauga. It was an answered prayer that caused great encouragement to both church at the
time. Expansion has started and there’s more to come.
Truly, God is pouring out His blessings on these two
JIL Churches with continuous growth being manifested and there is more that the Lord has in store for those whose faith and
hope is in Him. Therefore, JIL Mississauga will be here to stay and conquer for God’s glory alone!
